Buuuut it’s not just vocal health promotion in the workplace..it’s vocal health promotion ALWAAAAYS & everywhere. But still, this is some sweet research study displaying what we already know…that OCCUPATIONAL VOICE USERS are prone to voice disorders AND would benefit from vocal health promotion programs (in the workplace). Anddd ps this is how the MISSION of VOXFIT® came to be! ;)

Atara-Piraquive et al. (2021) aimed to determine the effect of a workplace vocal health promotion program on the voices of college professors. The program was comprised of 4 sessions (one session per week: 2 face-to-face & 2 virtual) that focused on the concepts of vocal hygiene, vocal training, and strategies to modify the teaching-learning process. The results of the study indicated that implementing a workplace vocal health promotion program (as well as modification of working conditions) influenced voice function as measured by means of instrumental voice measures and voice-related quality of life.

In my 2018 research (published in 2020), approximately 78% of 230+ respondents affirmed they have never had a vocal training, but 92% felt a vocal training would be beneficial for their work in the fitness industry, and 85% of respondents stated they would be interested in attending such a training.

Bottom line/Conclusion of the first study: “Workplace promotion programs may be good approaches to decrease the high prevalence of voice disorders among professors”…. (…and fitness instructors, & performers, & teachers, & coaches, & call center representatives, & sales representatives, & broadcasters, & ALL occupational and professional voice users!). And in my mind, it’s not just a “may be good approaches” general conclusion… I KNOW that workplace vocal health promotion programs ARE a GREAT approach to decrease the high prevalence of voice disorders among occupational voice users, and almost more importantly—they are ALSO a great way to provide education, empowerment, & ownership of vocal health, vocal efficiency, vocal dynamics, and reinforce the general importance of PRIORITIZING THE VOICE within your “work” setting (and everywhere else for that matter).
