Fall Voice Conference 2019 Recap

October 21, 2019

.

Still on a VOICEHIGH from the incredible Fall Voice Conference 2019 this past week in Dallas! The Fall Voice is an annual conference that focuses on "the clinical care of patients with voice-related difficulties & how clinical & basic science research guides clinical care”. Several professionals across the world are involved in this conference including: MDs, speech pathologists, voice scientists, & voice teachers…& the conference is divided among invited lectures, panel discussions, & scientific presentations. Basically, it's a chance for medical & performing voice “geeks” to get together & learn from each other—sharing research, discussing cases, & bonding over our passion—the VOICE (& how we can help our patients/clients to find & maintain their BEST voices possible).

I am very grateful for the opportunity I had to attend this conference, but even more grateful for the privilege I was awarded to present my research at the podium. To be amidst so many incredible voice professionals & hear about their passions & research…AND share mine as well was truly a blessing I will cherish forever (& hope to repeat in the future!).  I am beyond thankful for the conference program committee & for my colleagues—for their passion, persistence, kindness, research, evidence-based medicine, & patient-centered care…& for always questioning, growing, & enhancing our fields of speech pathology & laryngology. It is in this community of like-minded & passionate voice-specialized professionals that positive change & consistent innovation are created & continue to evolve. When powered by passion & purpose to truly make a difference in this world & in the lives of patients & clients, the POSSIBILITIES are ENDLESS.

DREAMS become reality when PASSION, PURPOSE, & PERSISTENCE meet.  You MUST follow your heart, & you MUST pay attention to that little VOICE in your head & heart that doesn’t go away—it is most certainly directing you towards your MISSION. This thought was my guide before my research even began, & it continues to guide me now (as I know it also guides all of the wonderful people I met or reunited with at this conference). My mission is to educate, coach, rehabilitate, & inspire occupational voice users…& transform their VOICES AND LIVES. CHEERS to VOICE!!!
