If It's Too Heavy, Put It Down.

Alright voice FAM, this applies to LIFE and to VOICE.

IF something is too heavy, you must put it down.

IF your hands are full, don’t open your arms and try to hold more with your arms, hips, and elbows (hellooo grocery bags). You must put something down to have SPACE for MORE.

Even though you may not be physically carrying your “stuff” around in a bag, box, or suitcase, YOU STILL CARRY IT. You still HOLD it. And it gets HEAVY. Right?! You carry the “weight” of your “stuff” in your body, your mind, your heart, and your VOICE.


IF your voice is too tired or your vocal schedule is too packed, you must LET GO of  some vocal demands in order to PRIORITIZE YOUR BEST VOICE.


We always say VOICE should FEEL “light and easy” with “no effort”. But if you are “holding” (your breath or maybe some muscle tension, etc.), your voice will always be “working” instead of just BEING. Voice can be supported, dynamic, and engaging without being effortful. “If you want to feel LIGHT, you have to LET GO” (Courtney Carver). If you want to REACH OUT and TOUCH others with your VOICE, it’s gotta have an easy ride on some air to make an impact.


What are your PRIORITIES?

YOU MUST PRIORITIZE that which is important. YOU MUST BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE. No one can or will do it for you—you MUST do it for yourself, and you WILL do the BEST job.  What are you holding? In your hands, in your heart, in your mind, in your throat, in your body? You CAN put it down if it’s too heavy. You CAN make a different choice that fulfills you more. You WILL overcome and find that perfect life (and vocal) balance. It’s a process, everyday. But ya gottaaaaa believe that it’s okay to LET GO…it’s how you BECOME MORE.
