…These collisions can cause pathological tissue changes, possibly leading to vocal nodules and voice quality changes. SOVTEs OPTIMIZE voice production with slightly separated vocal folds, MINIMIZING collision forces, while still allowing EFFICIENT vocal PROJECTION with reduced phonatory threshold pressure, the minimum pressure required to initiate vocal fold vibration” (Titze, 2018).
Soooooo what kind of semi-occluded vocal tract exercises (SOVTEs) are YOU doing? Are you waiting until it’s “rescue”, or are you using these research-based tools as effective helpers/healers/“resetters”? Do you realize the benefits of these exercises?… Especially related to preventing pathological tissue change as described above? ESPECIALLY if you often use loud voice?
If you have any questions, or you need help developing a vocal exercise, warm up, or reset plan that is right for YOU… feel free to reach out… Knowledge is POWER, and I am powered by PASSION for helping others PRIORITIZE their VOICE. YOU are included in that, so reach out if you need help or have questions.

As ALWAYS, I am still on a complete VOICE HIGH from another @sincitylaryngology conference!!! This is my favorite conference every year and I absolutely LOVE all the learning, collaboration, catch-ups with colleagues, and FUN.
.
Continuing education is INVIGORATING to me and I truly believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t growing. #growthmindset always. I prioritize this one every year because it’s my FAVE and it provides the laryngologist, ENT, and SLP perspectives on alllllll of my favorite topics—voice, airway, swallowing, and management/treatment of head/neck cancer. It relays and encourages the beauty of the collaborative model in treating these patients as well, which is also one of my passions. Additionally, it is always guided by research and includes extra courses too (an incredible voice symposium, TEP workshop, and other MD-focused workshops). PLUS IT IS IN VEGAS, which is always high vibe energy and fun (although somehow still quite smoky).
.
For any friends who haven’t been to this conference yet, I HIGHLY recommend.
.
Can’t wait for next year!

This picture is of Ed and myself-- he is the president of the National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders and a head/neck cancer survivor himself. I have always seen him at this conference over the years and absolutely love his positive attitude and all he strives to do for awareness of swallowing disorders.
