I just HAD to share THIS VIDEO... I am so very proud of this patient (who is an occupational voice user). She made some consistent (and AWESOME) vocal hygiene improvements, was attentive to and consistent with voice therapy-related exercises and strategies, and changed some aspects of her vocal schedule and daily vocal demands.
.
I was honestly expecting that voice therapy would likely reduce some of the swelling and redness that the patient walked in with… And possibly reduce the size of the fullness/lesion on her left vocal fold… But was thinking she may have to have surgery… Sooooo when we took a peek again after three voice therapy sessions and (as stated above) her awesome, consistent application and adherence, it was a beautiful sight to see (in regards to the overall improvement)!!
.
We don’t always get to see this much beautiful improvement on the inside… Often improvements are realized via audible voice quality, acoustic measurements, improved vocal endurance, reduced vocal effort, reduced vocal fatigue, and/or improvements in patient reported outcome measures. And there are also many times the patient needs surgery (depending what’s going on etc.). There are also times that huge improvements are noted audibly/perceptually, but another look on the inside reveals only small changes. Everyone’s journey is different, which is incredibly important to remember.
.
And it’s incredibly important to remember exactly that— that it IS a JOURNEY. VOICE is a journey, learning is a journey, healing is a journey, and YES— LIFE is a journey. Be patient with yourself and be patient with your larynx. But be PROUD of the small victories. And be PROUD of the consistency you create with positive vocal habits and the improvements you make regarding vocal hygiene. And be PROUD of the days you commit to PRIORITIZING YOUR VOICE.
.
I’m proud of YOU for reading this and being interested in your vocal instrument.
.
STAY TUNED for a really FUN video coming our this week for WORLD VOICE DAY!!

World Voice Day occurs every year on APRIL 16th and this year’s theme is LIFT YOUR VOICE! ๐๐ผ๐ช๐ป๐ฃ EVERY year, World Voice Day is a specific day when laryngologists, ENTs, voice-specialized speech pathologists, voice scientists, voice teachers, & all other voice professionals worldwide join together to educate the public on vocal health & voice care…AND (most importantly) to recognize & celebrate the VOICE & all its beauty. This is especially a great time for occupational voice users to HONOR their VOICES as the beautiful (& essential) INSTRUMENTS that they are…to PRIORITIZE vocal health…to find space for vocal warm-ups (& cool-downs)…to create realistic vocal schedules…to ensure adequate sleep…to reconnect with airflow…to learn healthy ways to project the voice (without strain)…to prioritize hydration...to maintain optimal posture to support healthy voice use...& to release any muscle tension that might be negatively impacting the voice. The list goes on. PRIORITIZE YOUR VOICE.
.
.
If it was up to me, World Voice Day would be celebrated EVERYDAY (as it should be!). So CHEERS to its purpose in HONORING & CELEBRATING the VOICE. Sending VoiceLove & HEALTHY VoiceVibes to all voice professionals, voice users, voice patients, &all those interested in or passionate about VOICE! The ๐ needs YOU… the ๐needs your VOICE! ๐ฃ๐๐ผ @worldvoiceday
