What's Your Plan?...

PRACTICE. YES this is real life. This is from MY phone. I do it too. AND IT’S AWESOME. Practice: Make it a routine. Intentionally INSERT practice within your daily routine. MAKE time. 

“Ok I’ll practice…” (a patient, a client, and/or yourself…)

When? Where? How long? HOW will you remember? What is MOTIVATING you to COMMIT to practice and CREATE new HABITS? 

From personal experience, I KNOW that life is insaneeeelllyyy BUSY. I KNOW that unless I MAKE time (and literally set alarms to remind me!!!!!… choosing specific times that make sense for my day), then time time will FLY right through and I will never fully complete my “MISSIONS” or goals of the day. BUT are they even goals if I haven’t MADE A PLAN to ensure I reach them/surpass them?! And HOW do you ensure you HAVE a PLAN unless you quite literally MAKE ONE—pick times, set alarms, and ADHERE your your intentions?! 

Add all this to the already saweeeet concept of motor learning… 1) Varied practice —type, location, time, scenario; 2) High frequency—PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, multiple times per day =way better than once; 3) Lesser amount of time vs long duration (to ensure that lovely multiple amount of times per day approach as well as which reminders/resets to your mind and body).. and there are MANY more benefits and hallmarks of motor learning buuuut these are some faves of mine that’s apply directly here…

Soooo this is REAL LIFE friends, I personally CHOOSE to practice what I preach. Hydration, consistent practice/vocal resets, attention to WHERE my voice “is” whenever I talk, the list goes ON and ON. It’s a conscious decision we all have to make daily in order to PRIORITIZE OUR VOICE (and VALUE our beautiful VOCAL INSTRUMENT)… #youvegotthis #chooseyourbestvoice #letsgo

Lingual Tension Release...

SMOOTH OPERATORRRRR

THERE IS SO MUCH POWER IN LINGUAL RELEASE.

Many people (occupational voice users!!) hold tongue tension they may not even know about, and this challenge impacts both SPEAKERS and SINGERS alike!! 

.

There are a variety of ways to “stretch the tongue”/encourage lingual tension release, but all center on a slow prolonged approach, taking time to listen to the body and respond (by increasing depth of stretch or backing off to allow for more growth in time), and a maintained focus on breathflow too (the inhale prepares space and the exhale allows for more growth in the stretch). I also love to speak or sing while in the stretch (training the tongue to disengage from the voice), and then repeat the speaking/singing tasks again outside the stretch… FEELING a positive change in general lingual freedom and quality of the voice. Manual therapy such as this can also positively impact patients who have experienced changes in lingual anatomy and/or function because of surgery (scar tissue etc.) and/or radiation therapy. I have truly seen the benefits of lingual-focused manual therapy in patients, clients, and myself.

I absolutely LOVE prioritizing lingual tension release techniques within my day. The FREEDOM afterwards related to tongue movement, articulatory precision, and VOICE is incredible. I feel like a whole new person!
