Your VOICE is an Instrument...

October 30, 2019

.

THE VOICE is an instrument, and for occupational voice users (a.k.a. YOU if you use your voice for your “job”), it is THE essential tool through which you convey your important message out to the world—whether that means to clients, employees, students, or even an audience of thousands who are moved by your use of voice to create music or bring a script to life.

.

.

Just like any other instrument, the voice’s quality and performance will reflect how well it is taken care of and how effectively and efficiently it is used/played.  Whether the general goal is a beautiful vocal quality, a well-delivered presentation or sales pitch, a dynamically delivered classroom or studio experience, or a perfectly “played” tune—the end result is a direct reflection on the instrument’s care-taker.

.

.

If you play an instrument (piano, guitar, trumpet, etc.), you likely take pristine care of this instrument because:

*you understand its worth and value (maybe you paid for it yourself…)

*you know you are responsible for its condition (and this directly impacts its performance)

*you want it to work properly for you when played (because how it functions and what it sounds like is a direct reflection of you)

.

.

You practice playing this instrument everyday…you get your instrument and fingers “warmed up” before going “full out”…you understand that the output (sound, delivery, precision, flow, etc.) is directly reflective of your care and practice with that instrument.  You take the responsibility and you are proud of the result.

.

.

As an occupational voice user, do you remember that your VOICE is your INSTRUMENT?? Do you take care of it? Do you prep it for performance? Do you practice using it efficiently and dynamically? Do you take responsibility for its function and are you proud of the result?  Are you impacting others with your VOICE they ways you KNOW are possible?  And if not, what is holding you back?  It’s YOUR instrument. Take responsibility for its health and function. And use it to create lasting impact on others.
